GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Officials are disinfecting a Greenville school after a 5-year-old student went home sick and died hours later.

Greenville County School District spokesman Oby Lyles says the Blythe Elementary Academy student who died Tuesday may have had a viral illness.

Deputy Coroner Barry Wright says the kindergarten student went home sick Tuesday and died just after 7 p.m. that night. State health officials are investigating and say the boy didn't wake up from a nap and was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The child's name has not been released.

Lyles says anyone who might have had contact with the student and now has symptoms like a runny nose, headaches or fever should see a doctor. Counselors were at the school Wednesday to help students and staff.
