COLUMBIA (WACH) - A  24-year-old Columbia man has been accused of having sex with a 12-year-old girl in a car.

Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott said Kevin Felix Alvarez, 24, is charged with second degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.  

Scott says Columbia police officers found a car at an empty house on Columbia Ave. shortly after 7 a.m. Monday. The suspect and victim were found partially clothed inside the car.

Officers say the girl said that she knows Alvarez and she asked him for a ride to an undisclosed location, but the empty house is not where she asked to go. 

The girl was taken to a local hospital and reunited with her mother.

Alvarez was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
