COLUMBIA (WACH) -- After a welcomed break from the extreme heat, and receiving some very much needed rainfall on Monday and Tuesday, our friends heat and humidity are returning to the Midlands.

Highs will return to the 90s today and climb torwards the century mark by this weekend.  With the return of humidity, it will feel like it`s over 100 from today through the weekend.  This trend will likely take us through the next seven days.

The reason from the extreme heat is what`s called a ridge of high pressure.  High pressure means a clear sky.  Well in the summer months the lack of cloud cover and the abundance of sunshine helps to heat things up.  That along with southerly winds that help bring in moisture from the Gulf of Mexico make for some very, very, very uncomfortable conditions.
