COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Tropical Storm Patty formed Thursday afternoon east of the Bahamas to become the sixteenth named storm of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season.

The National Hurricane Center says that the maximum sustained winds with Patty are at 40 mph.

The storm is currently stationary about 255 miles northeast of the central Bahamas.

Patty is expected to be short lived and perhaps even weakening some by Friday as environmental conditions become less favorable.

The National Hurricane Center is also monitoring an area of disturbed weather east of the Lesser Antilles.
