COLUMBIA (WACH/AP) -- A 4.3 magnitude earthquake rattled eastern Kentucky Saturday.
The epicenter was located near the Kentucky/Virginia border about eight miles west of Whitesburg.
The earthquake happened at 12:08 p.m. and was felt across the region.
Residents in nearby Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Indiana, Ohio and Georgia also reported feeling the temblor.
National Weather Service spokesman Jeff Carico says employees at the office in Jackson, Kentucky, which is about 60 miles northwest of Whitesburg, felt the ground shake for about 15 seconds.
He says the office has gotten numerous calls, but so far no one has reported any serious damage.
Here in the Midlands of South Carolina, the earthquake was felt at the Jenkinsville helicorder in Fairfield county about two minutes after it originated in Kentucky.
USGS geophysicist John Bellini says the quake is considered "light" and isn't expected to cause major damage.
Several smaller aftershocks were also reported after the initial earthquake.
