CONWAY, S.C. (AP) -- An inmate who walked out of a South Carolina jail more than a year ago has been captured in California.

The U.S. Marshal Service arrested Charles Dewayne Ransom in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Ransom switched armbands with another inmate in the Horry County jail in November 2011 and walked away.

Ransom had been arrested on drug trafficking charges stemming from a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration case named "Operation Snow Bird" that involved 14 people accused of shipping cocaine from Los Angeles to Baltimore in 2010.

Investigators said Ransom had used multiple aliases during his 16 months out of jail.
