COLUMBIA (WACH) -- A driver has been charged with DUI after a crash that caused a gas leak and power outage early Saturday morning.

Columbia Police says German Figueroa, 46, was going south on Beltline Boulevard when he hit the median before 5 a.m. near Rosewood Boulevard. The vehicle hit a gas line and a power line cable, which resulted in a gas leak and power outage.

SCE&G crews along with Columbia Firefighters were called in to make repairs and take care of the gas leak.

Police say Figueroa is charged with DUI, driving under suspension and operating an uninsured vehicle.
