COLUMBIA (WACH) -- February is Black History Month and the city of Columbia kicked it off with a bang on Saturday.
Hundreds of residents attended the annual statewide Ethnic History Parade and Gospel Soiree festival. The parade started at the intersection of Hampton and Harden Streets, continued down Harden, and ended at the Martin Luther King Park on Greene St.
After that, the Gospel Soiree event featured food, fun, and many Gospel Bands. Organizers say it is to celebrate Black History vy education through entertainment.
Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin and Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins also participated in the event.
