GILBERT, SC (WACH) -- A Gilbert man who has been struggling to make ends meet has finally received the money he said was taken by his internet provider.

Curly Gatts recently moved to Gilbert from Pittsburgh, Pa. for a new job. Gatts signed up with Hughesnet Cable in late December. He was surprised when he saw the company took $467 out of his account. Gatts said they were only supposed to take $99 for installation.

After a WACH investigation, Gatts has received good news. Hughesnet has reimbursed $414 that was owed to Gatts. The company told WACH there was some confusion on whether Gatts was going to buy equipment. The company apologizes for the charge.

With the money he got back, Gatts was able to pay his light and phone bills. Gatts said he will be more careful next time.

"I would suggest that people do not give anyone their information over the phone; whether it be their debit or credit card," Gatts said. "If the company is not good enough to send you an e-mail and say 'this is what it is going to be', and give you a confirmation number, I would not do business with them. People should not be allowed to take whatever kind of money out of your account. They should have to go by the rules of the law like we do."

Hughesnet also cancelled the overdraft fee they previously charged Gatts.
