COLUMBIA (WACH) - A woman who was rescued from a house fire in Columbia Thursday morning died at a local hospital.

A spokesman for the Columbia Fire Department says fire units responded to a residential fire on Chappelle Street around 7:15 a.m. Thursday.

Firefighters learned there was a woman inside the home on their way to the scene and immediately located her upon arrival. She was taken to a local hospital by Richland County EMS where she was pronounced dead around 8 a.m.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identified the woman as 62-year-old Barbara Y. Floyd. An autopsy conducted this morning shows that she died from complications of the fire.

Two dogs were in the home at the time, but were uninjured.

Authorities say damages to the home are estimated at $50,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
