COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The federal courts system in South Carolina has collected more than $100 million this year.

U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles says that the District of South Carolina has taken in more than $96 million in civil actions and more than $6.5 million in criminal actions. He says that was the fifth highest collection by a U.S. Attorney's Office nationwide.

Across the country, federal prosecutors collected more than $13 billion in criminal and civil actions during this fiscal year. The government says that's more than double last year's total.

Nettles says his office has prioritized the recovery of funds lost from fraud against the government.
