SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- A Spartanburg man has been accused of neglecting his 104-year-old mother.

Police say they found Demetra Leventis at a home Tuesday. Authorities say she was lying in her own feces and had fist-sized bed sores filled with maggots.

A home health nurse found the woman and asked the woman's son, 63-year-old George Leventis, for help cleaning up his mother.

The nurse says Leventis told her to leave. Police found the woman slumped over a couch, wrapped in a sheet.

Neighbors say they had not seen the woman in a year. Demetra Leventis has been hospitalized for an infection, and officials said she was in fair condition.
