CAYCE, SC (WACH) - SCE&G work crews are helping to keep homes heated this holiday season.

For the past two weeks, volunteers with SCE&G have been renovating Angela Bogan’s home in Cayce. The renovation comes with a brand new water heater, heating and air conditioning system, as well as insulation that is being placed around the home.

Bogan was selected to have these services free of charge through the Aiken/Barnwell/Lexington Community Action Commission. SCE&G participates in the program through a grant.

Those like Angela who need assistance apply with the Community Action Commission and must meet certain criteria before being selected. This program is made possible by federal government funds, which are funneled through the Governors Office of Economic Opportunity.

Workers say the biggest benefit is that homeowners like Bogan won’t have to use space heaters anymore, and that their home is now more energy efficient.

“We are also doing alot of construction here that they're going to make her home better. We’re doing sheetrock, alot of improvements inside the home,” says Don Faircloth, SCE&G.

Faircloth says the work costs an estimated $8,000.

Those who are interested in learning about being selected by the program can call 1-855-992-4536.
