Severe thunderstorms are popping up just twenty four hours after flash flooding devastated the Lexington and Columbia metro areas. Newberry and Fairfield counties have already seen thunderstorms tonight capable of producing penny size hail, damaging winds and heavy rain.

"Wednesday nights storms proved how dangerous flash flooding can be," says WACH Fox News Weather Anchor Justin Kier. "I personally witnessed cars nearly submerged in low lying areas. Drivers need to remember the phrase turn around, don't drown."

Wednesday storms set record rainfall amounts including the National Weather Service's rain gauge at the Columbia Metropolitan airport. The total reached more than 3.77 inches.

Storms also knocked out power due to damaging wind gusts. SCE&G at one point last night listed more than 1400 customers with outages.
