Triple digit temperatures will invade the midlands Friday and Saturday afternoon. This can be a dangerous environment for prolonged periods of time. The most susceptible groups to heat are the elderly, children, sick and animals.
Heat index values will be between 100 and 105 degrees. "Heat index is a fancy way of saying how it feels outside," says WACH Fox News Weather Anchor Justin Kier. The heat index takes into account temperature, humidity and wind. According to the National Weather Service, sunstroke, muscle cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke are possible within this heat index range.
"Don't forget about your pets," says Kier. "They are just as susceptible as children. If they don't have to be outside, bring them into the air conditioning. Don't leave them in a car unless it's for a short period of time with the a-c running. If they absolutely have to be outside, make sure they have plenty of shade and water."
A ridge of high pressure will provide a pronounced southerly flow with plenty of sunshine. Check out Justin Kier and Tim Miller's exclusive online forecasts.
