In Blythewood, you can find a southern delight many people enjoy morning, noon or night.  We're talking about grits.

Joe Trapp grinds grits.  Something he started doing as a hobby.  Seven years later, he's grinding the sweet taste of success.

"You know how hobbies are they just kind of get out of hand, when you have a good product," said Trapp.

His "good" product is created only with southern ingredients.

"I don't use anything but South Carolina products," said Trapp.

He says one taste of his yellow grits and you'll be trapped into wanting more.

"I think people are going to start eating them three times a day and that's just too many," said Trapp.  "So I think I'm gonna have to come up with a 'Grits Anonymous.'"

These southern grits also come with a guarantee.

"I promise people that if they will find some grits and cook them for me, and if I think they are better than my grits I'll buy them for them," said Trapp.  "Yeah you'll hurt yourself eating them. They're that good!"

People from as far away as Utah have requested Trapp's breakfast favorite.  And he says it's just a matter of time before his yellow grits become a household name.

"They will associate Joe Trapp-to Grits, as they do Uncle Ben-to rice."

Trapp knows it's his natural, secret ingredient that'll keep folks coming back.

"If you get Joe Trapp's to start with you get 100% corn," said Trapp.  "The best there is in the land."

A one time hobby, is now a golden production.

Mr.Trapp's grits are the best I've ever eaten, and I am from south Georgia and of a "certain age". I look forward to making cornbread from his corn meal.

GRITS: You can't eat just one.

Joe's golden grits was one of my first menu items. Besides Joe and Martha Trapp being two of the most wonderful and friendly people, their grits are wonderful too. I am from Beaufort, so I thought that I would bring a little bit of Beaufort to Blythewood. My cousins own Gay Fish and the Shrimp Shack in Frogmore, SC, which is on one of the many islands of Beaufort. I thought that I would offer "Frogmore Grits", Grits are corn, so I just add some smoked sausage, shrimp, and a little onion. I have converted many non grits eaters to loving Joe's Golden Grits. Oh yeah, and the cornmeal is out of site too!

Grits

I am thrilled to know I can find these home grown grits. My dad use to make them and when he was no longer able to make them, we were upset. I do hope we will be able to find them in my area very soon.

Thanks,

Betty Aughtry
