The South Carolina football season kicks off in just 4 days against East Carolina and Head Coach Steve Spurrier says the team is healthy and ready to hit the field. Spurrier held his weekly press conference Tuesday afternoon and told reporters that no starting quarterback has been named at this point.

The National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration released its forecast for the 2011 season Thursday. Scientists say as many as 18 named tropical storms may develop. Six to 10 of those could strengthen into hurricanes with top winds of at least 74 mph. Three to six could become major hurricanes, with maximum winds of 111 mph and up.

Weather forecasters at Colorado State University predict 16 named storms in the Atlantic. Nine of those storms are expected to turn into hurricanes, five of them major. However, the SkyWACH Weather Team reminds Weather WACHers that early predictions are not typically accurate.
