COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Watermelon growers are meeting in Columbia to talk about their crop.
The South Carolina Department of Agriculture says the 40th annual meeting of the South Carolina Watermelon Growers Association kicks off Friday. There is a grower meeting Friday afternoon at the Phillips Market Center at the State Farmers Market.
On Saturday, there are educational sessions on weather and market trends, a watermelon auction and a banquet.There is also a seed-spitting contest and a competition to crown the next Watermelon Queen.
