COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH)--The Riverbanks Zoo gave residents a load of its property just in time for the spring growing season.

The zoo is took orders for its com-poo-st. It is all-natural composted zoo feces; effortlessly produced by the zoo's animals. The compost was given from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Serious gardeners like Dan Smith say they can take the load at a reasonable price. Smith said he only paid $43 for one load.

"I think it is a fantastic deal," Smith said. "Getting good compost is rather expensive when you get real manure compost. It is a wonderful opportunity for me to get something convenient, inexpensive and very good for the garden. It is a good deal all around me."

Each day, about 1,500 pounds of manure is put in the compoost pile; most of it from the zoo's elephants.
