COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - South Carolina shortstop Joey Pankake has been named Louisville Slugger's National Player of the Week and the SEC Player of the Week.
The sophomore hit .438 in five games going 7-for-16 and blasting four home runs in five games. Pankake also drove in nine runs in the wins over Rider and Ball State.
The shortstop is hitting .326 on the season and tallied all four of his home runs on the season last week. He has 14 RBI on the year and is currently in the middle of a seve-game hitting streak.
Pankake is the second Gamecock this year to earn SEC Player of the Week honors. LB Dantzler was honored by the conference on Feb. 25.
The No. 5 Gamecocks are back in action Tuesday night when they host USC-Upstate at 7pm.
