RINCON, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities say a Georgia man who was stabbed to death and his body dismembered was seen alive in a video surveillance tape from a South Carolina hotel on New Year's night.

The Savannah Morning News reports that 35-year-old Charles Ray was seen in the video with Chad Moretz leaving the hotel in Hampton County, S.C. Authorities have said they believe Moretz, who was shot to death in a police standoff Friday, likely killed Ray.

Effingham County sheriff's spokesman David Ehsanipoor says investigators believe the two men came to Effingham County after leaving the hotel and got into a heated argument.

Ray's remains were found in bags at a house in Rincon and in a storage facility in South Carolina. Police found the body parts after Moretz was killed by police.
