COLUMBIA (WACH) – The Benedict College Tigers football team continues to work towards this Saturday's final scrimmage, which will determine several position battles, as well as prepare for next week's season-opener at Virginia Union University.

Head Coach James Woody said the team will make a decision on the starting quarterback position after Saturday's scrimmage, but added the race is still too close to call.

“Offensively, we've still got to make that decision at quarterback,” Woody said. “We're so inconsistent in the quarterback area right now. We still don't know who is going to be that No. 1 guy. All three are fighting. Chris (Thomas) did a good job today. Marcus (Graham) did a good job. But they still haven't separated themselves. This Saturday is going to be extremely important.”

Woody said the coaching staff will evaluate the players after Saturday's scrimmage and make a decision on a starter on Sunday so that person can focus on preparing for Virginia State.

Saturday's scrimmage will be at 7 p.m. at Charlie W. Johnson Stadium and will be played under game-like conditions as the team uses it for a final dress rehearsal for next week's season opener.

“Saturday is a big scrimmage. It is going to determine where we go from here and we'll set that team Sunday morning,” Woody said.
