Clemson avoids sweep with walkoff over USC 6-5

Columbia (WACH)- Steve Wilkerson singled in Jon McGibbon in the bottom of the ninth as Clemson avoided being swept by rival South Carolina on Sunday 6-5 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Tigers move to 5-4 on the season, while USC drops to 9-1.
The Gamecocks jumped on Clemson early in the second scoring four runs, including a three-run homer by Grayson Greiner. Greiner finished the day 2-for-3 with two homers, four RBIs, and one walk.
USC was ahead 5-3 in the eighth until Phil Pohl smashed a two-run homer to tie the game. Then Wilkerson delivered the game-winning single in the ninth to complete the comeback.
South Carolina returns home Wednesday night when they face UNC Asheville at 7 p.m. Clemson hosts Holy Cross on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
