RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Some of the Atlantic Coast Conference's most versatile athletes have managed to excel in two sports.
North Carolina State's Russell Wilson and Clemson's Kyle Parker are the latest to join the list, finding success on the football field and the baseball diamond. Boston College's Dave Shinskie returned to football after playing minor league baseball for seven years.
Producing multisport athletes is nothing new in the ACC. Charlie Ward and Deion Sanders did it at Florida State, while Rusty LaRue was one of the top athletes in Wake Forest history.
It's something the players say can only occur under the right mix of circumstances: Open-minded coaches, understanding teammates and a determined, focused athlete.
