COLUMBIA, SC -- Tyler Webb pitched 5 scoreless innings as the Gamecocks beat the Volunteers 4-0, sweeping the season series.

The teams waited nearly 2 hours for the weather to clear before playing ball.

Tennessee pitcher Stephen McCray kept South Carolina off the scoreboard until Whit Merrifield hit his 5th home run of the season in the 5th inning.  It was a solo blast that put USC up 1-0.

Scott Wingo added another solo home run in the 7th inning to make it 2-0.  USC got some insurance runs in the 8th inning.  Brady Thomas drove in pinch-runner Evan Marzilli and Adam Matthews plated home Thomas with an RBI.

Webb earned his first win of his career and struck out six batters.

USC hits the road for 4 games, starting with Georgia Southern, then Auburn this weekend.
