COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Benedict coach Stanley Conner is out of the hospital and is expected to be at the Tigers' game Saturday, although as a spectator and not a coach.

School athletic spokesman Derrick Johnson said Wednesday that Conner had been released from Providence Hospital and is doing well.

The coach began feeling ill just before halftime of Saturday's home game with Kentucky State and was taken to the locker room and then to the hospital. Assistant Brian Wajert coached the team in the second half of Benedict's 42-35 victory.

There was no immediate word if Wajert would lead.

The Tigers (5-5) close the regular season against Clark Atlanta University in the CSRA Classic at Augusta, Ga. Johnson wrote in an e-mail that Johnson would travel with the team but would not be on the sidelines as he recuperates.
