Bass fisherman, or anglers as they're called, hit Lake Murray this week with their hooks targeting the million-dollar top prize.
WACH FOX News met up with last year's champ.
Scott Suggs is not your average self-made millionaire, he's last year's winner of the Forrest Wood Cup. But Suggs won't have a chance to defend his title because he didn't qualify for 2008's "Superbowl" of bass fishing.
Suggs says the tourney is a great opportunity for an angler from Irmo to win on his hometown lake, just as he did in 2007 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
He says the Irmo area should expect to see people from all over bringing in more money for the economy.
Suggs says his home town of Hot Springs received national attention and that big events like the FLW Forrest Cup can be a great for the towns on their tour.
The top prize in this event is $1 million. It’s the biggest prize in the sport of bass fishing.
The FLW 2008 Forrest Wood Cup will be held at the Lake Murray Marina and Yacht Club starting Thursday at 7:30 a.m.
The tournament is scheduled from August 14-17.
