Gaffney knocks off Dutch Fork for Class 4A state crown

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Shaq Davidson rushed for two touchdowns and threw for two more to lead Gaffney to its record 16th state championship with a 34-22 victory over Dutch Fork in the Class 4A Division I title game Saturday.

The championship was the Indians' first since 2006.

Davidson opened the scoring with a 50-yard run on Gaffney's third offensive play. He added a 19-yard run later in the first quarter as the Indians (12-3) scored 17 first-quarter points. He finished with 105 yards rushing and was 7 of 10 for 153 yards with scoring passes of 44 yards to O'Bryant Davidson and 38 yards to Eddie Studyvance.

Trey Gregg ran for 148 yards and a touchdown for Dutch Fork (11-4). The Silver Foxes were making their first championship game appearance and had four turnovers, all in the first half when Gaffney jumped to a 24-7 lead.
