COLUMBIA (WACH)- In their first meeting as conference opponents, South Carolina and Missouri battled it out in the first ever "Mayor's Cup."

In the first quarter, neither team scored and the offenses combined for only 200 total yards.

But then Connor Shaw squashed any doubts about his injured shoulder affecting his game.  The starting QB, who has been nursing an injury to his throwing arm since the season opener at Vanderbilt Aug 30, threw 20 straight completions for a game total of 396 yards.

That streak put him second in all time consecutive completions in SEC history second to Tennessee quarterback Tee Martin.

"I wasn't aware of the streak until after the game until they told me after the game," Shaw said. "Of course, I had a lot of guys around me that helped a lot with that."

The win also started a new rivalry with Missouri, who just joined the Southeastern Conference this season.  The University of Missouri is located in Columbia, Missouri, so the teams came up with a rivalry prize called, "The Mayor's Cup."

Head Coach Steve Spurrier, in a much shorter than usual post game press conference, said it was "a wonderful victory and we're happy to get it."
