CLEMSON - Clemson scored nine runs in the first four innings and held on to defeat top-ranked Florida State 9-7 in the first game of a doubleheader Monday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Seminoles won the nightcap 9-5 behind a 4-for-4, 3 RBI performance by Sherman Johnson.
The Tigers, who won the series 2-1, are now 31-21 overall and 16-11 in ACC play.
In the opener, Tiger starter Kevin Pohle (6-2) earned the win by tossing six strong innings. He gave up six hits, three runs (one earned), and one walk. Scott Firth pitched the final 2 2/3 innings with three strikeouts to record his second save of the season.
Brad Felder led Clemson’s nine-hit performance by going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run, while Spencer Kieboom totaled a team-high two RBI. Clemson also rang up a season-high five stolen bases.
Clemson hosts Furman Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the last regular season home game.
