USC women's basketball team Sweet 16 bound, WACH Fox in Fresno

Gamecock fans cheered for the USC women's basketball team as they left for California Thursday afternoon.

COLUMBIA (WACH)-- Gamecock fans sent the USC women’s basketball team to California with a spirited sendoff Thursday afternoon.

Fans cheered outside the Carolina Coliseum as the team started its journey to the Sweet 16.

Larisa Bruner fought back tears as she watched the team load the buses. Bruner is the mother of junior forward Ashley Bruner.

“It’s exciting, but it’s a lot,” said Bruner. “I’m extremely proud, but I’m gonna cry!”

The Gamecocks take on Stanford Saturday night.
