COLUMBIA (WACH) - It was a Saturday of drama and fantastic finishes at Colonial Life Arena.

In the Class 2A boys basketball championship, Newberry just missed a three-pointer at the buzzer and fell to North Charleston 49-48.  The Bulldogs started the game in an 18-0 hole but crept within one thanks to a furious rally.  But the Cougars, despite shaky free throw shooting at the end, held on to win the state championship.

In the Class 2A girls game, Bishop England completed an undefeated season with a 43-41 victory over Columbia.  The Lady Capitals had a shot to win at the end, but missed a three at the buzzer.  It's the first girls basketball state championship for the Lady Bishops.
