COLUMBIA (WACH) – USC head football coach Steve Spurrier has informed assistant coach Jeep Hunter that he will not be retained for the 2012 season.
Coach Spurrier indicated that he felt the team needed a more experienced secondary coach and has decided to go in that direction.
“We wish Coach Hunter and his family the very best,” said Spurrier.
Coach Hunter spent three seasons on the Gamecocks’ staff in different roles.
This has been an offseason of turnover on the USC staff, with three new assistant coaches coming on board: Joe Robinson (special teams/tight ends), Kirk Botkin (linebackers) and Everette Sands (running backs). In addiiton, Joe Connolly was promoted to head football strength and conditioning coach.
