S.C. State comes up short in Big Ten country

(AP) -- BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana's Edward Wright-Baker threw for two touchdowns Saturday, and the Hoosiers rushed for 271 yards and three more scores to defeat South Carolina State 38-21.

The victory gave new Indiana coach Kevin Wilson his first career win in three tries.

Wright-Baker led the Hoosiers (1-2) by going 19 of 24 for 266 yards. He also rushed nine times for 33 yards. Freshman D'Angelo Roberts ran 19 times for 102 yards and scored his first career touchdown.

Derrick Wiley kept the Bulldogs (1-2, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) within striking distance of their first Big Ten opponent for most of the second half. Wiley was 15 of 30 for 216 yards with two TDs.

Indiana finally sealed the win with a 40-yard TD pass from Wright-Baker to Kofi Hughes with 9:46 to go.

S.C. State plays its first home game of 2011 next Saturday, hosting Delaware State.
