The USC football team is on the verge of making the national top ten. The Gamecocks are the 11th-ranked team in the country according to both the Associated Press and the USA Today/Coaches poll. That's up one spot from their previous ranking.
The No. 11 ranking is the highest for a South Carolina football team since the team was ranked sixth in the country after defeating North Carolina on Oct. 13, 2007, which improved its record to 6-1.
The Gamecocks (2-0, 1-0 SEC) are coming off a wild 45-42 win at Georgia on Saturday. South Carolina defeated the Bulldogs in back-to-back meetings for the first time since 2000-01 seasons and for only the sixth time in the history of the series, which dates back to 1894.
The Gamecocks' home opener is Saturday against Navy. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium. The contest will be televised nationally by ESPN2.
