STARKVILLE, MISS (WACH) – No. 2 South Carolina defeated Mississippi State 13-4 on Sunday to win the rubber game of a three-game SEC series.
USC improves to 31-8 and 14-4 in the SEC while MSU falls to 24-16 and 7-11 in the SEC.
“I’m very proud of our team,” said South Carolina head coach Ray Tanner. “Of all the games I have been involved in, this game means a lot to me - by the way we went after it.”
The Gamecocks played without its entire starting outfield from Opening Day. Junior outfielder Adam Matthews did not make the trip after restraining his hamstring last week against Florida.
Junior outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. sustained an injury to his wrist in Saturday’s game at Mississippi State and did not play Sunday.
Evan Marzilli also did not play – due to an undisclosed medical issue.
Both players will be evaluated by University of South Carolina physicians on Monday.
The Gamecocks return to action on Tuesday when they host Liberty at 1pm.
