ORANGEBURG (WACH) – The South Carolina State Bulldogs began their 2011 spring football drills on Tuesday.
The session was the first of 15 scheduled for this spring.
“It was the first day and I liked the enthusiasm our guys showed,” Pough said. “We moved around good and seemed to be attentive. The players will have a lot of information thrown at by the staff in a short time, so it’s imperative that they grab it, grasp it and run with it.
“I know we still have a lot of work to do,” continued Pough. “We are just getting started but I’m excited. “As I told the players, the first day was relatively easy but it will get tougher. We have to work really hard if we want to be an outstanding team this fall.”
Coach Pough lost 15 seniors last year, 11 of the starters, including three-year starting quarterback Malcolm Long.
The Bulldogs will return to the field on Thursday at 8 p.m.
SC State will also practice Saturday at 10 a.m. and on Sunday at 4 p.m.
Spring drills will end on Saturday, Apr. 16, with the team’s annual Garnet and Blue contest, set for a 1 p.m. start.
