COLUMBIA (WACH) - The countdown to National Signing Day is officially underway and it's no secret the Gamecocks have their sights set on South Pointe's (Rock Hill, S.C.) DE Jadeveon Clowney.
Clowney is considered the nation's top prospect and the key to rounding out South Carolina's 2011 recruiting class.
The first day of the official signing period is on February 2nd but Clowney says he will wait to make his decision.
According to reports - Clowney will announce his commitment on his birthday, February 14th.
This weekend Clowney made an appearance at the Gamecocks basketball game against the Kentucky Wildcats.
In traditional fashion- the Garnet Army gave him a very warm welcome. The student section held posters and chanted his name over and over again.
Clowney planned on taking an official visit to Florida State this weekend but canceled last minute.
Reports say Clowney will decide between playing football for the Gamecocks or Alabama.
