ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Darnell Porter scored 19 points and Rio Pitt added 17 as South Carolina State defeated Anderson 94-83 Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs (1-1) shot 68.8 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes (22 of 32), leading to a 52-40 halftime advantage. Porter had 11 points during that span; Pitt had 10.

The Trojans (1-2) did their best to keep up, shooting 52.5 percent from the field (31 for 59) for the game, led by Denzail Jones' 23 points. They rallied to within four when Kevis Cornwell's layup made it 56-52 with 16:07 to play. But Anderson got no closer because the Bulldogs cooled little from the first half.

South Carolina State made 14 of 24 shots (58.3 percent) in the second half, building their lead to as many as 12 points when Pitt scored on a layup with 10:44 left.

Joe Ikhinmwin scored 13 points in 17 minutes and Westley Telafare added 12 points for the Bulldogs.
