CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- The NBA has fined Charlotte Bobcats guard Stephen Jackson $50,000 for verbal abusing a referee after Friday's loss to Detroit.

Jackson was hit with a technical foul by referee Steve Javie late in the third quarter, complaining he was fouled on a made basket. The fine is for his actions after the game, which were not explained by the league.

Jackson, who normally doesn't speak to reporters before games, declined to comment about 45 minutes before Charlotte faced Orlando Saturday. But Jackson was clearly upset as he warmed up, shaking his head as he told Magic guard Mickael Pietrus of the fine.

The penalty comes as the NBA is cracking down on demonstrative actions by players. Jackson has received two technical fouls in five games.
