MacDowall leads Coastal Carolina past VMI 31-3

LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) -- Zach MacDowall threw for two touchdowns and had a rushing score to lead Coastal Carolina to a 31-3 rout over Virginia Military Institute on Saturday.

The Chanticleers (4-5, 3-1 Big South Conference) scored 31 unanswered points after VMI's Jeff Sexton made a 22-yard field goal in the first quarter.

MacDowall, who passed for 254 yards and an interception, connected with Marquel Willis on two scoring passes -- 15 and 18 yards -- to give Coastal Carolina a 14-3 lead. After a 23-yard field goal by Justin Durham, MacDowall scored on a 2-yard run in the third.

Coastal Carolina's Keon Cunningham returned an interception 39 yards for a touchdown in the final quarter.

Willis had three catches for 47 yards for the Chanticleers.

Eric Kordenbrock completed 18 of 39 passes for 111 yards and two interceptions for the Keydets (3-6, 2-3).
