BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (AP) -- Zach MacDowall scored on an 8-yard run in overtime and Coastal Carolina continued its mastery of Gardner-Webb with a 30-27 victory in a Big South Conference game Saturday.

The Chanticleers (3-5, 2-1) needed a little extra to beat Gardner-Webb for the seventh consecutive time. The Runnin' Bulldogs (3-5, 1-2) forced overtime when John Rock threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Jamal Patmon with 28 seconds left in regulation.

Coastal Carolina won on defense in the extra period, with a goal-line stand at the 2 forcing Gardner-Webb to settle for Ryan Gates' 20-yard field goal. Desmond Steward led the Chanticleers defense with 13 tackles.

MacDowall completed 16 of 28 attempts for 205 yards. Rock was 21 of 37 for 275 yards, but one of his two interceptions hurt immediately -- the one Dominique Davenport returned 28 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown.
