No.9 SC State Wins Easily Over Norfolk State 34-13

ORANGEBURG (WACH) - The South Carolina State Bulldogs extend their MEAC winning steak to 21 with a 34-13 victory of Norfolk State on Saturday at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium in Orangeburg.

“This was a great game for us and we were worried a little bit,” stated SC State coach Buddy Pough. “We changed up things abit as far as our communication and that made a big difference on the outcome of the game.”
SC State jumped out 14-7 on a 47-yard punt return by sophomore Josh McFadden at the 10:25 mark in the first quarter. Senior quarterback Malcolm Long connected with running back Chris Massey to give the Bulldogs a 14-7 lead going in the second quarter.
Long punched in a 1-yard score to put SC State ahead 21-10 in the second quarter with 8:38 left in the half. Junior kicker Blake Erickson booted a 39-yard field goal to close out the first-half with the Bulldogs in the lead 24-10.
Massey rushed for his second touchdown of the day on a 4-yard scamper to give South Carolina State a 34-13 victory over the Spartans of Norfolk State. 
Senior running back Chris Massey led the rushing attack with 23 carries for 82 yards, while Malcolm Long the Preseason Player of the Year in the conference finished 12-20 for 125 yards and one touchdown.
The Bulldogs defense was led by senior linebacker David Erby with 11 tackles, while the Spartan defense was led by Devonte Reynolds with 12 tackles.
Pough stated, “I am very proud of our kids when we got down early the continue to play hard and didn’t panic. Our kids stayed positive and focused.”
With the victory SC State improves to 4-1 overall 2-0 in the MEAC, while Norfolk State falls to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the league.
South Carolina State will return to action on next week when they host the undefeated Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic showdown on Saturday. Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m.
