WASHINGTON (WACH, AP) -- The USC Gamecock Baseball Team is in Washington Monday.

The College World Series Champs wrapped up a meeting with President Barack Obama.

The President honored USC and several other NCAA teams that won national championships this year.

The large and diverse group gathered on the South Lawn as Obama continued a tradition started by George W. Bush in greeting winning students and champion teams from across the NCAA.

Obama said everyone there had a competitive streak "about a mile wide." To a bowling team, the president joked, "I need some tips, guys!"

Obama applauded all the players for coupling sports with study. He noted that the practice will serve them well if they shift their focus to life as doctors, lawyers or teachers.

USC also got a free tour of National Park, home of the Major League Baseball's Washington Nationals.
