NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College Wolves football team completed its first scrimmage of the 2010 preseason and the wealth of returning talent on the offense side of the ball stole the show with five touchdowns put on the board.

After the first team defense forced the first team offense to punt in the initial stages of the scrimmage, the offense began the fireworks. On a third-and-8 play from the defense's 47-yardline, second team quarterback Parker Hite (Ninety Six, S.C.) hooked up with Edward Gilliard (Summerville, S.C.) for a 45-yard completion down the sideline to set up a two-yard touchdown plunge by Alkeem Sherman (Conway, S.C.).

When the starting offense returned to the field with 50 yards to go, quarterback Bryan Ehrlich (San Antonio, Texas) completed a 50-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Bostick (Florence, S.C) on second down. Ehrlich later completed an 18-yard pass to Brian Leneau (Sumter, S.C.) on a third-and-long play that would set up a 32-yard field goal by JoJo Morris (Lancaster, S.C.). Linebacker Joe Smith (Jonesville, S.C.) and defensive end Eli Charles (Green Cove Springs, Fla.) made huge plays in the backfield during the series and Philip Ashley (Tallahassee, Fla.) broke up a potential touchdown pass from Hite to Darien Crawford (Aiken, S.C.) in the endzone.

The ball was moved up to the 20-yardline to start the final sets of plays and Ehrlich connected with Bostick for a 19-yard score on which Bostick held on to the ball after heavy contact from a defensive back. Ehrlich set up the second touchdown of the session with a 12-yard pass to Max Elliott (Clover, S.C.) and then completed an 8-yard screen pass for a touchdown to Elliott.

The defense stood up and made stops for the remainder of the session, but the kicking corps made 2-of-3 field goal attempts. The scrimmage ended with a jumbo package touchdown. The offense scored at least one touchdown in each session of the scrimmage.

The team's next scrimmage will take place on Wednesday, with a time to be announced in a future practice report.
