COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina baseball team rebounded from a series loss at East Carolina by dropping Presbyterian College Wednesday afternoon at Carolina Stadium.
USC blanked the Blue Hose 15-0 by racking up 18 hits.
Scott Wingo and Whit Merrifield both knocked out homers for the Gamecocks.
Starting pitcher Nolan Belcher, along with four relievers, combined for a two-hit shutout.
"It has been only seven games but our pitching continues to do a nice job,” says coach Ray Tanner. “We used five guys today. Nolan Belcher had a quality start and we had some guys in the bullpen that got a little bit of work. We got a bunch of runs early with two outs, so that put us where we needed to be today.”
The Gamecocks have a 5-2 record this season. Presbyterian now stands at 1-7 for the year.
USC returns to the field at Clemson later this week. The three game series against the nationally-ranked Tigers kicks off Friday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
