Freshman Tyler Webb pitched 4 scoreless innings and the Gamecocks held on for a 5-3 win over Duquesne.  South Carolina sweeps the season series.

USC got on the board in the first inning courtesy of a Jeffrey Jones RBI ground out that scored Whit Merrifield.  6 scoreless innings passed until Adam Matthews broke the drought with a solo home run to center field.

South Carolina put three more on the board in the 8th and it appeared the Gamecocks were going to blow out the Dukes.  Duquesne made it interesting, scoring 3 runs off Gamecock reliever John Taylor in the 9th.  Carolina reliever Stephen Neff earned his first career win throwing 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

South Carolina returns to action Friday against East Carolina in Greenville.
