JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — An 18-year-old high school basketball player in Jacksonville has died after collapsing at halftime.

Phillip Jackson played the entire second quarter, but none of the first, for Sandalwood High on Monday.

Coach Rocky Cusack said he went into convulsions and fell to the floor just as players were heading back to the court. Jackson had only a slight pulse when paramedics arrived and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Cusack said Jackson was in good shape and seemed fine before falling.

Sandalwood withdrew from the tournament.

Cusack said: "Our kids were severely shaken by what happened there today. You throw basketball away when something like this happens."
