DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — Grandma's Marathon in Duluth expects a shortfall of about $80,000 this year due to a drop in entries.

However, Executive Director Scott Keenan says the not-for-profit organization that runs the race budgets conservatively and is in good financial shape.

Registration for the 33rd annual race ended Monday. Keenan says it appears there will be no more than 8,400 entries, although the entry limit was 9,500 runners.

It's the first time in 15 years that the event didn't sell out. The marathon had an all-time high of about 9,900 runners a year ago.

This year's race is on June 20.

The entry fee is $85, but race organizers also make money from a spaghetti dinner, health and fitness expo, selling souvenirs and corporate sponsorships.
