TORONTO (AP) — Chicago White Sox outfielder Jermaine Dye has been suspended two games and fined an undisclosed amount after he threw his helmet and it bounced off an umpire.

Major League Baseball imposed the penalty Friday.

Dye was ejected by plate umpire Mike DiMuro after being called out on strikes with the bases loaded in the sixth inning Wednesday night at Cleveland. Dye argued briefly with DiMuro and was ejected after slamming down his helmet, which bounced off the umpire.

White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen also was ejected.

Unless he chooses to appeal, Dye will begin serving his suspension Friday night at Toronto.

Earlier this week, White Sox closer Bobby Jenks was fined an undisclosed amount for throwing a pitch behind Texas' Ian Kinsler last weekend.
